I Started A Joke...The Joke's On Us

Time: 6.40am.. was getting ready for work.

SMS from my sis -
Breaking news: Heath Ledger found dead 1 hr ago.

Shocking! Couldn't believe what I was reading. Turned on the TV, news channel, but nothing on, just the ticker tape news announcing the breaking news. Finally found something on the Australian Network news (of course). Didn't even realise there was an Australian network news channel on Astro! Was it because of the Antipodean actor's roots that this news network suddenly came on?

But then, even more shocking, as I replied to my sister's sms later at the office, was that the 2 young ladies in my office had no idea who Heath Ledger was?!! What?! I told them, he was last memorably in 'Brokeback Mountain', they said nope! Didn't watch that movie... What the heck! I didn't either! But I still know he was in it! What with all the controversy that movie about the gay cowboys drummed up!!

Ok, let's see...aha! Whatabout 'Knight's Tale'?? You guys have got to know that movie?? Ok...recognition dawned on their faces. Yes! Ok...they knew that movie! But..wait for it! The next comment, 'but isn't he an old guy anyway?' What the f*^$!! It just stumped me, so much so that all his other movies just escaped my thoughts. How could they not know The Patriot? Casanova? The Brothers Grimm or my first introduction to Mr Ledger, 10 Things I Hate About You....ahhhh...Ok, so he's not quote msnbc online 'While not a marquee movie star, Ledger was a respected, award-winning actor who chose his roles carefully rather than cashing in on his heartthrob looks'. I guess it justifies the ladies' next comment, 'nda kami tau lah kalau nda berapa famous'. Sheesh! I give up. Whaddya expect from a bunch who watches Indonesian and Malaysian dramas and movies anyway?

I was certainly looking forward to the many interviews the oscar nominated actor would've been giving regarding his turn as The Joker in the new installment of the Batman bonanza... The Dark Knight. Certainly this movie need not anymore publicity now. I myself will definitely be catching this movie on the big screen.

Woke up kinda early for a Sunday. I mean leaving the house by 9.30am to go for dim sum must be new record for me. Decided to go to Emperor's Court for a change, Dynasty's getting a bit old.
Inda menyasal. It was yums! It was a dim sum buffet. So don't have to wait for the waiters to roll their trolley over to you. And my! Banyak kali kan di makan ah... there were the usual favourites, steamed dim sum: beancurd skin, sweet sour crabstick, shumai etc, fried goodies; yam cakes, carrot cake, noodles. There was porridge, roasted chicken, list is endless! My hubby of course had his monster fill of his fave prawn salad and wontons. He was also glad there were sesame balls. On top of that I found a new favourite, can't remember what it's called now, yam balls? lotus balls? Anyhoo, they're kinda deep fried crispy bread balls with sweet filling. It was kinda greasy, but will definitely have it again.
I really wanted to have the wonton kolo mee, but I was sooooo full! I didn't even go to the starter's and with our favourite dessert, sago honeydew, it was well worth the $15.80... per person. So next time, I plan to go there and start slow, so I make sure I have a taste of everything! Heheheh! Making me hungry already!
Oh, and so glad Ugly Betty is on again, downloading episodes 11 and 12 now! Heroes masih lagi stuck on episode 11 as far as I can see, and I'm waiting for someone to put up episode 14 of Gossip Girl. Ahhh...like someone used to say, 'the beauty of IT'. Makes life so much better... dontcha think?

Swamped

Been kinda disoriented with all the public holidays. It's been good though to have breaks in the middle of the week, work one or two days, then another day off. I think I much prefer it then a public holiday smack bang on Saturday, and getting three days off, where I do absolutely nothing.
With just a day off in between, I make sure I do something that day to make the most if it.
Anyhoo, work has been a panic ride. Trying to fit into my new assigned unit. Bleurgh! Back to HR work.
And goddamn it if I can't seem to shed even a kilo off my fat ass. I get it down one day, then the next day it just creeps right back on. There's tons off food in the room, and I just can't stop stuffing my face. Oh boy! What a start to the new year! What with the tops my sister's been getting me, the new styles that's empire waisted, people are thinking I'm preggers!
Speaking of which, one exciting development. Dr has started adjusting my medication, in anticipation of me getting pregnant. So, like my cuz who's also trying said, 'Good Luck to Us'!!

Tempting Fate?

Time; 10.54am. SMS from my mom:
'10 Jan cuti ani kami kan ke S'pore. Ikut? Kalau ikut aku kan booking tiket'

So? Should I go? Nah....can't be bothered to go right now. Leaving on Wednesday right after work and coming back on Friday. Rushing lah... I'll be too knackered to work the next day! I think I'll wait for March when I can apply for proper leave.

Speaking of flying, would you dare check in with this bag? In the States? Wearing a long black abaya? Any takers? I will buy this bag for you!

Ok... so there's like 2.5 hours left of the 1st day of the year..shoulda done it last nite really...
